Refunds and Withdrawals

Goldfields Institute of Technology is required to make all policies relating to refunds public.

Advice of Withdrawal

Students must submit written advice of withdrawal via a Withdrawal Form to be considered eligible for a refund. If you are considering withdrawing, it is strongly recommended that you speak with your lecturer prior to doing so.

Full Refunds

If you withdraw from any unit or course of study, you are entitled to a full refund of fees and charges where:

  • a course/qualification or unit is cancelled or re-scheduled to a time unsuitable to the student;
  • a student is not given a place due to maximum number of places being reached; or
  • a student accepts an offer of a place in a university. In this situation, students must provide a copy of the letter of offer with their refund application.

A full refund can be approved by accountable officers at any time if a class is cancelled because of declining student numbers, no available lecturer, or due to other circumstances caused by Goldfields Institute of Technology.

Part Refunds
If you withdraw for reasons other than those outlined above, and lodge a withdrawal form prior to or within four weeks of commencing a unit or a program of study or before 25% of delivery has been concluded (whichever is sooner) you will be eligible for a full refund of your course fee and 50% of the resource fee paid.
Pro-Rata Refunds

If you withdraw for personal circumstances beyond you control, accountable officers can approve a pro rata refund of fees and charges at any time during the course of delivery.

For example:

  • serious illness resulting in extended absence from classes;
  • injury or disability that prevents the student from completing their program of study; or
  • other exceptional reasons at the discretion of the accountable officer.

In all cases, relevant documentary evidence (for example, medical certificate) is required.

Payment of Refunds
All refunds will be given either as a cheque or be paid via EFT to the student's nominated bank account.
